"I have had the blessed opportunity of working with Jacey and Hermano (her amazing horse) for the past year.  Before I stood next to and eventually worked with this powerful creature, I had no idea what it really meant to be present, to be in my body - despite years of meditation, counseling and soul searching.  Hermano asks that you be absolutely present when working with him, just as he is in every moment.  Jacey's counseling skills and her ability to guide the sessions and interpret Hermano's subtle communications help to create a supportive and exciting environment.  I will be forever greatful for the work I have done with these two wonderful beings!" - Boulder, CO

Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP)

EFP is an experiential form of psychotherapy.  What that means is instead of talking about yourself, you are invited to experience yourself.  What happens to you when you feel frustrated, confused, inadequate, joyful, at peace, etc…? Being in relationship with a horse provides the opportunity to feel a wide range of emotions, and then to make choices about behavior from an authentic place.

In EFP we work with cultivating openness, presence, and authentic action.  The more we can practice these principles, instead of just talking about them, the more they become an embodied part of who we are.  This embodiment allows us to transfer the skills from therapy to our life situations. No experience with horses is necessary.

If you feel called to working with horses and are interested in learning more about my perspective on EFP, please feel free to read my masters paper, Opening the Gate: Cultivating Self-Awareness and Self-Acceptance Through Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy.

The Golden transcript also ran an article about my practice. You can find that link here.

The following article entitled " The Art of Setting Boundaries – What We Can Learn from Observing Horses" was published in the Highlander magazine.
