Radical Personal Responsibility
Most of us reach
a point in our lives when we realize that we are unhappy or dissatisfied
with some aspect of the way we are living. We may long for deeper,
more meaningful relationships, we may feel unsatisfied with what we
“do for a living,” or, there may be a general discontentment,
a feeling that there is something more to life than what we are experiencing.
Often we manage our dissatisfaction by relying on coping skills that
have served us well such as denial, blaming others, rationalizing,
over-scheduling ourselves, and checking out, until suddenly, they
stop serving us. We reach a point where we know we must do something
differently, yet, what? Where to begin?
By making the decision that
we are going to take Radical Personal Responsibility for our lives,
we take the first step towards creating the life that we are aching
for. It’s as simple, and as difficult, as that. Taking radical
personal responsibility for our feelings and actions can be an immense
shift from the way we have been living. Often we are so entrenched
in our habitual patterns that we are unable to see where we are stuck
and resistant to taking responsibility for our lives. With support,
encouragement and guidance, the process of taking radical personal
responsibility is an enlivening and empowering one.
